Despite the varied responses and underwhelming financial performance of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City in the previous year, Sony Pictures Entertainment is moving forward with another movie. According to Sudbury.com, the city has acquired financing for a fresh film project entitled “The Umbrella Chronicles.
Raccoon HG Film Productions, the company responsible for the 2021 film, will be receiving $2 million CAD from the provincial government to fund the development of Welcome to Raccoon City. This project involves identifying suitable locations for the venture.
Currently, Sony has not made any official statements regarding a follow-up to the Johannes Roberts-directed movie. However, the credits of the film subtly alluded to the possibility of a sequel being in the works. It seems likely that this sequel will take its title from the 2007 shooter game Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, given the information available.
