May 23, 2023, will mark the release of the animated series “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai” on Max. This latest addition to the popular horror-comedy franchise takes on a new form with its animation style.
The animated show, which lasts for thirty minutes, is produced by WB Animation and Amblin TV. The plot is set in Shanghai during the 1920s and narrates the tale of Sam Wing, a 10-year-old boy who encounters the young Mogwai, Gizmo.

This preview provides a more detailed glimpse into the show’s plot. It appears that the Gremlins are being manipulated by an antagonist who desires to conquer the world. To accomplish this, the Mogwai are transformed into ferocious creatures that are capable of causing widespread destruction. The series seems to be reminiscent of “Gremlins 2”, but with an open-world setting.
The Wing family is portrayed by a cast of renowned actors and actresses. This cast is fronted by Ming-Na Wen, who is known for her work in productions such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Mandalorian, and Mulan. James Hong, who is famous for his appearances in films such as Big Trouble in Little China and Blade Runner, as well as Mulan, is also part of the cast. BD Wong, who has acted in the Jurassic World film franchise and Mr. Robot, is also part of the cast. Finally, Izaac Wang is a member of the cast as well.
Produced by Amblin Television in conjunction with Warner Bros. Animation, “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai” is a promising new animated series.
The executive producers of the project are Sam Register, who is the President of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, who both hold the position of President at Amblin Television.
Tze Chun holds the position of showrunner and executive producer, while Brendan Hay holds the position of executive producer. Dan Krall serves as the supervising producer.
