Under no circumstances should you expose your eyes. On July 14, a new international spinoff film titled Bird Box Barcelona, set in the same universe as the acclaimed 2018 film Bird Box, is set to debut.
This morning, Entertainment Weekly has released a fresh teaser trailer, and has also verified that Bird Box Barcelona does not serve as a prequel. Rather, the movie’s events occur simultaneously with those of the original Bird Box film, but in a distinct geographical location.
According to Dylan Clark, the producer of the movie, Bird Box, the events that Sandra Bullock’s character, Malorie, experienced are simultaneous with the struggles of Mario Casas’ character, Sebastian. The location, Barcelona, provides a unique opportunity to portray the challenges of surviving an imminent danger in a city with such an iconic reputation.
The first spin-off film will be a Spanish-language thriller set in Barcelona. The Occupant and The Head filmmakers Alex and David Pastor wrote and directed the film.
Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Diego Calva, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Patrick Criado, Celia Freijeiro and Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner and Leonardo Sbaraglia star in Bird Box Barcelona.
Bird Box producers Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan return to the Spanish-language film, and Adrian Guerra and Nuria Valles return to Nostromo Films.
Executive producers are Susanne Bier, Josh Malerman, Ryan Lewis, Ainsley Davies of Chris Morgan Productions and Brian Williams of Dylan Clark Productions.
