Ash and Bone is a wild white-knuckle thriller, that will leave you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Boosted by great performances from Jamie Bernadette who has become a cult sensation in the genre fanbase as of late. Angelina Danielle Cama gives a brilliant breakthrough performance as the rebellious teenage daughter Cassie. This film offers much more than what we have become used to in independent slasher and horror films. It gives our depths into the characters we invest our time in.
The screenplay by Bret Miller is fantastic giving us intrigue and suspense going at full tilt. He took his time creating a world of Ash and Bone and it shows, even Harley Wallen as Cassie’s father keeps the film grounded and delivers a fascinating performance. Bret also keeps the action going at every turn. When nothing is going on it doesn’t take very long for something to get the story back on track.
Something I did not realize while watching Ash and Bone the first time is that Harley Wallen also directs, and he knocks it out of the park. Making the best out of a low-budget thriller, I have to imagine for Harley a lot of hard work and dedication went into making this film a reality. Often times we see someone take on too much of a responsibility and it doesn’t come out genuine. However, with Harley Wallen’s effort it was well worth it on his and everyone’s part.
Overall grade: 3/5 stars
