A Quiet Place: Day One is an upcoming American horror movie directed by Michael Sarnoski and is a prequel to the 2018 film A Quiet Place, and is the third installment in the series produced by America’s much-loved John Krasinski alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Ruller. It was originally set to be released in March 2023, but due to a series of delays, the release date is now set for March 8th, 2024.
Krasinski announced the completion of the script in May 2021, and it was submitted to the studio. By October of the same year, original director Jeff Nichols stepped down due to “creative differences,” and was replaced by Sarnoski by January 2022. He submitted a complete rewrite of the script.

As you may already know (or don’t), the franchise takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where monsters hunt with a heightened sense of sound. So far, we know that the Day One installment takes place before the events of the first movie and follows a whole new cast of survivors as they navigate a world where aliens have invaded Earth. While not much else is known about the plot or storyline, it is expected to address more of the backstory on how the world became overrun with sound-hunting creatures.
Cast-wise, Lupita Nyong’o from 12 Years a Slave’ is rumored to be joining the movie. She is known for her versatile performances, and one of her most acclaimed roles was in Jordan Peele’s Us, a horror film in which she portrays both the protagonist and the villain. Nyong’o’s nuanced portrayal of the characters earned her a SAG Award nomination.

Alex Wolff, who gained recognition for his breakout role in Hereditary, has been confirmed as the second actor to join the cast of A Quiet Place: Day One. With his recent appearances in movies such as Pig and M. Night Shyamalan’s Old, Wolff is on his way to becoming a seasoned veteran in the horror genre. Hereditary is still considered to be one of A24’s best horror movies, which only solidifies Wolff’s credentials in the genre.
Breakout actor Joseph Quinn, who gained fame for his role as Eddie Munson in the sci-fi/horror Stranger Things, has been confirmed as the third actor to join the A Quiet Place cast. His role in the Netflix hit-show earned him a particularly loyal fanbase – I’m sure fans will be flocking to cinemas to see him in action in his first leading performance.
We can also expect to see Djimon Hounsou reprise his role from the second installment – A Quiet Place Part II – as the man on the island.
While the upcoming horror is based on an original story by Krasinski himself, we can’t confirm at this time if he or his wife and co-star, Emily Blunt, will be reprising their roles from the previous installments. What we do know is that this installment is being filmed in London. However, based on photos of the set on Sarnoski’s Instagram, it looks as though it could be set in New York. But other shots show petite Asian market stalls and cobbled streets, so it is anyone’s guess at this time where the movie is actually set.

It’s possible that A Quiet Place: Day One will focus more on action rather than horror or thriller given that it takes place during the height of the chaos. And while viewers got a taste of the day the apocalypse began in A Quiet Place Part II’s opening scene, the prequel could offer up new parallel stories and more details on the origins of the monsters.
