The official title of the forthcoming sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been confirmed by the release of its first teaser trailer, revealing that the movie will be called Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and is set for release next year.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire sees the Spengler family make a return to the legendary New York City firehouse where it all began. There, they join forces with the original Ghostbusters who have established a covert research laboratory with the intention of advancing their ghost-busting capabilities to new heights. However, with the unearthing of an aged artifact, a malevolent presence is released, necessitating the cooperation of both the old and new Ghostbusters in order to safeguard their home and prevent the world from succumbing to a subsequent Ice Age.
The initial trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire authenticates the reappearance of Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, while also featuring the return of Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore. The highly anticipated sequel has been directed by Gil Kenan, known for his work on popular films such as Monster House and Poltergeist.
Among the cast of actors for this particular project are Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind, in addition to Bill Murray, Finn Wolfhard, Ernie Hudson, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Annie Potts, Dan Aykroyd, and Carrie Coon. The upcoming sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife is being produced by Jason Reitman, who also directed the film.
Currently, the release date for the sequel has been pushed back from December 2023 to March 29, 2024.
