Synopsis:
A reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic from director David Bruckner in which a young woman struggling with addiction comes into possession of an ancient puzzle box, unaware that its purpose is to summon the Cenobites, a group of sadistic supernatural beings from another dimension
There’s a new Hellraiser film, rather you wanna call it a remake or a reboot is up to you. However you want to describe it to your friends or family it’s one of the best of its kind when it comes to reboots or remakes. I would place it up there with Naomi Watt’s The Ring, and Suspiria. And while I know there are already going to be “Get off my lawn” old heads that will hate it for no other reason it’s a remake of an ‘80s horror classic. Just like they did with the recent ‘Prey’.
David Bruckner does an extraordinary job at creating his vision while being true to the source material of Clive Barker’s Hellbound Heart novel. His pacing skills behind the camera will give you goosebumps as Hellraiser is terrifying and gory as you’d want it to be while not being just for shock value. The cenobites are once again gloriously designed.
Jamie Clayton as the new pinhead is terrifying and gives Doug Bradley a run for his money, even though I know he is the ultimate Pinhead Jamie gives the performance of her lifetime. Odessa A’zion was my only early reservation to the film, but once it got into her character the movie got going once she met Pinhead.
The supporting cast is also solid, mainly in a horror movie the supporting cast’s only job is to get us to point A to point B when they get killed. However, in Hellraiser it’s different this time around and gives the supporting cast a lot to chew on within the script and it’s been a fantastic year for Horror, Hellraiser keeps the momentum going.
